This Safety Guide has been prepared by NECA for workers working in the Electrical, Communications and Data Contracting Industries

This version of the Safety Guide addresses various requirements of the  Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Acts & Regulations to assist you to become aware of your responsibilities as a worker, as well as relevant legislation, this Safety Guide also contains information from Australian Standards, Industry Compliance Codes and various construction industry and electrical contractors OHS Policies and Procedures.

The information is provided to help keep you and others safe at work. It will help you identify common workplace hazards and risks, enabling you to take appropriate actions to prevent injuries and illness to you and others. You are expected to arrive at the workplace fit to work. The goal is to finish work free from injury and illness.

This Safety Guide is not exhaustive and should be used in conjunction with your employer’s safe systems of work including site inductions.

Every worker is required to read and become familiar with the contents of this Safety Guide and to sign a commitment to comply. If unsure about anything in this Safety Guide you are to contact your manager for clarification.

If at any time you feel that the work you are doing or are about to do is unsafe then it probably is – safely stop work and immediately communicate your concerns with your supervisor to ensure you are working to appropriate safe work practices.

NOTE:  , There remain important differences around Australia for some safety matters such as energised (or live) work, testing and fault-finding, and Safe Approach Distances.  Reference must be made to the relevant State Regulators for specific and current details applicable to the state you are working in.
